Built in 2001, South Shields Community Fire Station was the first of the purpose built Community Stations built by Tyne and Wear Fire Authority. The station is located on John Reid Road, South Shields and covers the east side of South Tyneside Metropolitan Council.

As well as firefighting, staff are also the main asset in undertaking a range of Community Safety (CS) activities that are primarily aimed at preventing fires and deaths and injuries in fires.

South Shields has two fire appliances able to respond to range of incidents and a support vehicle where terrain is such that it would prevent standard appliances, Firefighters and equipment accessing incidents in areas such as the cliffs on the Leas.

In an emergency situation you may reort a fire by dialing 999.
